Bio

Peter Grant

Fuck me, I can do magic.

Personality
Strengths

Clever - When you’re referred to as a ‘cunning man’ by thousand year old river deities you might have something, and Peter does show a knack for talking his way out of (and into) situations. But more than that, Peter is a creative and somewhat out of the box thinker, often coming up with with ideas that no one else has.

Caring - However much he might joke otherwise, Peter is the kind of person who joined the police because he genuinely wanted to help people. As a wizard, he comes down hard on the idea of summary executions for dangeous supernatural creatures unless there is absolutely no other choice because they should have the same rights as anyone else.

Steady - Peter is incredibly hard to shake. This is, after all, the man who’s response to finding out that ghosts were real was to attempt to interview one as a murder witness. When he discovers something new or unexpected, he simply folds it into his world view and keeps going, though he may attempt to do tests on it later.

Weaknesses

Unfocused - It’s one of the most common things said about him - Peter is easily distracted. Whether it’s finding strange plaques to read or going off on mental tangets about ideas he wants to test, it can be hard to hold his attention sometimes. Especially when he’s not exactly interested in what he’s doing.

Repressed - Peter has a bad habit of swallowing down strong emotions until even he isn’t completely aware of them. It makes it easier for him to talk about bad situations as if they don’t bother him, but it does mean that he can be caught off guard when things suddenly boil over. It also lends itself to his slightly uncomfortable gallows humor.

Impulsive - He doesn’t always think before he acts, particularly when things are bad or dangerous. He generally means well, and more often than not Peter does it to try to help or save someone else, but when it results in things like wrecked ambulances and exploding buildings, he’s developed a bit of a reputation for the damage he can do.

Abilities
Abilities

Magic - Newtonian wizard. The exact rules of his magic are very specific, but the short version is that it consists of small spells called forma that can be linked together to create increasingly complex (and powerful) ones. As an apprentice, Peter isn’t capable of much of the higher-level spells yet, though he has managed to invent a few of his own.

Peter can also sense magic, to a degree, mostly feeling the traces of spells left behind (vestigia) or the ‘signature’ of another magician (signare). And thanks to one too many people trying to mess with his head, Peter has developed a resistance to mental coercion. It’s still possible, but it will take a lot more effort than normal.

More information/opt out can be found here.

Skills

Mundane - Fully qualified police constable. He’s particularly skilled at investigation and working with the public, but also has some ability with things like crowd control and basic first aid, and though he doesn’t use them much, has training in close-quarter fighting and marksmanship. He’s also passed an advanced driving course, mostly for the sake of being allowed to drive his boss’ (very nice) car.

Languages - No linguist, but Peter can at least understand Krio, and is learing Latin and Greek as part of his magic studies.
